Title: When the Worst Gets Worse: Critical Care and Disasters
Presenter: J. Alford “Ford” Flippin, MD, FACS
Dr. Flippin is a seasoned expert with a wealth of experience in surgical critical care and disaster medicine. Currently serving as the Medical Director for Clinical Research at OSF Healthcare, Dr. Flippin brings unique insights into disaster training and response strategies.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define what constitutes a disaster in the critical care setting.
  • Identify common disaster-related challenges in critical care.
  • Develop strategies for mitigation and preparedness in ICUs before a disaster.
  • Participate competently in disaster response and recovery within the ICU.
  • Optimize ICU disaster preparedness using the disaster preparedness cycle (mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery).
