Title: Remote Patient Management in the Critical Care and Acute Care Setting; Evolution of a Concept
Presenter: Michael Ries, MD, MBA, FCCM, FCCP, FACP
Dr. Ries is the Immediate Past Medical Director of Adult Critical Care, Tele-Critical Care, and the Patient Command Center for Advocate – Midwest, and Co-Chair of the system’s Sepsis Committee. He received his A.B. degree at Cornell University and his MD degree at Chicago Medical School (AOA Honorary). In 2002, he completed his MBA at the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University. Dr. Ries has authored numerous articles and book chapters and lectured extensively on tele-Critical and Acute Care and its impact on the quality and cost of health care delivery. He oversaw clinical and financial outcomes, integration, and process improvement initiatives for Advocate Midwest’s 34 ICU’s located at 26 hospitals and its Tele-Critical and Acute Care program, one of the oldest in the country. Dr. Ries strives to achieve clinical integration of technology and is skilled in applying AI and telemedicine to advance change management and optimize outcomes. He presently serves as a consultant and advisor for Tele-Critical and Acute Care, Sepsis management, and Remote Patient Management to healthcare systems and startup and global companies.

- Describe how TeleCritical/Acute Care is a facilitator of clinical workflow change management
- Summarize the Remote Patient Management Paradigm ie integration of innovative technologies, early identification and diagnosis, evidence-based management, precision medicine, and clinical judgement
- Recommend timely, standardized and evidence-based management at the time of patient need rather than their location
- Acquire reliable, risk-adjusted data helps achieve value, drive improvement and find OFIS
